FiveBarGate Consultants Ltd working to develop a new blend of bio-fuel (FAME)
Government plans to offer an incentive to use bio-fuel for heating are the right way to move consumers to a renewable heating alternative.
FiveBarGate Consultants Ltd has been working with, OFTEC (Oil Firing Technical Association), the University of East Anglia and others to develop a new blend of bio-fuel (FAME) with kerosene or diesel that will fuel existing oil boilers. FiveBarGate has been applying its depth of experience in bio-energy and advising on the potential green house gas savings, the technical and performance characteristics of the fuel as well as providing structured project management to the trials. The trials in and around Norfolk have been running for over year and have been very successful.
Homes and other buildings using these fuels will qualify for incentive payments from OFGEM under the proposed Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) – the consultation on which was launched by DECC today.
Commenting on the announcement about the RHI, Ian Waller, MD of FiveBarGate Consultants said:
“All European Governments have to act to reduce CO2 emissions – of which 45% in the UK and Ireland come from buildings. For homes heated by oil this “drop-in” alternative to fossil fuel offers significant green house gas savings. The figures published by the Building Research Establishment so far, show that the fuels being tested in Norfolk give better green house gas savings than mains gas, thus helping avoid a dash for gas in heating as well as power. From April 2011 householders will be able to claim annual payments if they convert to the new fuel.”
